Charley Montgomery is still reeling from the mysterious death of his wife near their country home in Normandy, France. A strange midnight visit draws him into a fight for his life with ruthless Nazis that pivots between the present and the Summer of 1944 during the vicious hedgerow fighting of the Allied breakout from Normandy. In this richly detailed historical novel, Charley discovers the terrible secret behind his wife’s fate and a deeper understanding of personal sacrifice in a time of war.

As a dedicated fan of Bernard Cornwell, Robert Harris and M.M. Kaye, I am a little picky about historical fiction. However, if you are a WWII buff, as I am, with an interest in D-Day and the battle for Normandy, this is a great read. It is a quirky, exciting adventure with a mind-bending twist and a message about personal sacrifice in wartime that resonated with me.
