Captain Tomahawk and the Sky-Lion

Children/Young Adult; Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror; (Market)

When young, famous jungle adventurer, Captain Anna Tomahawk, gets shot down over a desert, she finds herself trapped in a country of steampunk animals and at the start of a dangerous human-animal rebellion.

But when neither side of the conflict believe her wild stories of life beyond the desert’s edge, Captain Anna must decide where to place her allegiance—a tricky thing to do for a heroine whose big personality is only matched by her heart.

Now, from the middle of a desert where hope has dried up, the exuberant and self-proclaimed “greatest pilot there ever was”  must find a way to fix her airship, save her new friends, and prove that even a little hope can overcome the longest of odds.

Reviews
It's like C.S. Lewis wrote for Pixar...

An absolutely fantastic story that blends the eccentricity and innocence of an adolescent Peter Pan-like main character with the fun, adventurous experience desirable from a great reading experience. The characters will remind you of people you know, and you will find yourself laughing with and at the incredibly human, and entertaining cast provided by the author. I can only hope they keep writing.

YA Book that's great for you and your kids!

This is a great book - for young adults, kids and adults! It's an easy read with some really unique characters. My favorite was Max the Coyote, although Captain Tomahawk is pretty spunky too! This was truly like a steampunk version of Narnia - talking animals, mysterious lands, and a young girl struggling to find her way home.

The best part about this book was that I got to read a great story and experience some thrilling action while finding something that I would not hesitate to read to a kid. It's safe for kids' ears and Captain Tomahawk is the type of heroine that we need for our little girls. She's fierce and stubborn, but she's also fiercely loyal and good.

I give this book 5 stars and highly recommend it!

5 STAR Amazon Review

The Devil is a dung beetle

This surprising steampunk epic seamlessly sets free your inner child and encourages your mature inner good. It can both touch the soul of an adult and excite the imagination of a child. The deep meaning, fanciful imagery and unabashed talking animals remind me of what might happen if CS Lewis took his mystical imagination on a fantastic, post-industrial, steampunk kick.

The author is known to be a word wizard, but this book proves his powers extend past short, impactful, emotional poetry pieces to the longer term insight and persistence needed to create emotion and meaning over an entire book worth of words. Marty is also a story wizard.

Buy this book. Read it to enjoy yourself, be inspired by good and get lost in a piece of art.

5 Star Amazon Review - "Beautifully told story!"

“A story that is kryptonite to despair, told so whimsically well that one actually dares to believe it.” ~ Phil Long, Author and Founder of Sacrificial Poet Project

“Captain Tomahawk does not disappoint. This was the most fun I’ve had reading in years. I found myself wanting the story to go on and on…” ~ Neil Downey, Senior Editor, CruPress & Author of The Late Awakening

Be prepared for a story that is as action-packed as it is heartfelt. A truly one-of-a-kind magic for all ages. A story with so much soul, it’s for the grieving and the joyful all at once.

Though many have tried, none can find the edge of the sand. Because in Highsand Desert, no one gets out and no one gets in, that is…until now.

Captain Anna Tomahawk, the spirited and famed adventurer, is shot down and trapped in a country of steampunk animals. A dangerous human-animal rebellion is in the air. But if the edge is real, if the sea is out there, then the rebellion for water is meaningless.

The proof of the wonderful life beyond the desert’s edge is the Captain herself, but with everyone’s deeply held suspicions, how can they ever trust an outsider who claims to have a way out?

Now, from the middle of a desert where hope has dried up, the exuberant and self-proclaimed “greatest pilot there ever was” must find a way to fix her airship, save her new friends, and prove that even a little hope can overcome the longest of odds.

5 Star Amazon Review!!!

My name is Kit Leman, I’m ten years old, and I recently read Captain Tomahawk and the Sky-Lion. I LOVED reading it. I had a lot of favorite parts. Captain Anna Tomahawk is a pilot and she crashes her airship the Sky-Lion in a BIG desert. A coyote finds her, but he doesn't trust her until he decides to trust her because she’s so lively. Eventually, Captain Anna finds a rebellion and befriends it even though it isn’t exactly nice to her friend. The rebellion (And Anna) attacks the city. King Adax (That’s their King) fights one on one with Anna. All of a sudden King Adax jumps and… you have to read it to find out what happened when he jumped.

5 STAR BARNES & NOBLE READER REVIEW

If you are looking for a great story that the whole family can enjoy, Captain Tomahawk and the Sky-Lion is the book for you!  The title character Captain Anna Tomahawk is a fun, vibrant powerhouse.  She is a great role model for youngsters, girls especially, and proves that even the smallest of people can be strong and courageous, all while doing the right thing.  While Captain Tomahawk is its own original story, there certainly are connections that can made between this novel and C.S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia.  In my opinion, the story serves as an allegory for how we should approach life.  We should be willing to forgive, allow people the chance to prove themselves, and face our fears with the confidence that if we try, we will succeed.  I hope that you pick up and read this great debut novel.  I think Mr. Dalton has a bright future ahead of him, and I look forward to reading whatever he writes next!

Along the way, she restores those who have maybe made some bad decisions, and justly deals with evil. From the tallest to the smallest, the Captain offers her friendship to all. But will they accept it? A fun and exciting read that will make you wish the "edge" would never come.

5.0 out of 5 stars To The Edge..., November 19, 2014

...And the farthest shore!

"I loved this book." That sentence, while simply summarizing my sheer enjoyment and adoration of this book, does not do the story justice! Captain Anna Tomahawk while diminutive in stature is a larger than life hero of heroes. The story keeps the reader engaged and enthralled as Dalton develops the lore of Anna's adventurous life as well as introducing a rich tapestry of interesting and intriguing...

Can't help but LOVE the Captain!

Another 5 star review for Captain Tomahawk:

One can't help but love Captain Anna Tomahawk: She is cocky, confident, and has a strong moral base when it comes to people. I appreciate the fact that Mr. Dalton did not feel the need to use profanity, graphic violence, or sexual innuendos.

I would LOVE to see this made into a series--The Further Adventures of Captain Tomahawk, starring Captain Tomahawk and her sidekick, Max.

If you want a fun read, a clean read--then you need to read this book.
