When this happens, the twisting roads of travel can lead to adventures we never imagined -- and lessons we never expected to learn. Sometimes, if we're lucky, we cross paths with people who show us life from a different angle or provide kindness when it's needed most. Those we meet while traveling can change our journey, our experiences or even our lives. Come along with some of the world's top travel writers as they share their stories from around the globe. * Meet three Americans who help a Belgian woman find her voice * Bust a move with harmonica-playing pygmies in Uganda * See how a former enemy can become your friend * Watch a Kenyan girl face a heartbreaking custom with bravery * Learn from a wise young monk as he hikes in Bhutan * Marvel at the kindness of strangers in Japan * Take an unforgettable elevator ride with a courageous young woman in Paris * Gain new understanding during an unspoken conversation in Cambodia *Experience Nepal through the eyes of a child * Take a wild ride in Turkey depending only on the kindness of strangers And many more...

Amateur Traveler: Book Review of Chance Encounters

The most important sacred spaces are not in the guidebooks. They are the sacred spaces created when human beings reach out to other human beings and pull them into their lives, even for just a short time.”

Simply stated, if this quote resonates with you and how you view travel, then you will enjoy this book. “Chance Encounters”, the first book in the World Traveler Tales series, focuses on the people who meet and move us in our travels. READ THE REVIEW

f you can't manage to travel around the world, allow this book to do it for you. Even if you have been to each place this collection touches, reading about the people these writers met will reward you. This book is so well written, and each tale is unique. If you're looking for the next travel book to get your hands on, this is definitely it. These writers all bring different emotions out of you when reading, but also there is the desire to trust in other human beings that ties them all together. It's refreshing to read about amazing places, but especially so when those stories have amazing people of just as much importance. You'll be thinking about these people long after closing the book. I am particularly stuck on the compassion of Magdalena, a weaver from Guatemala. It's a treat to read stories that strongly impacted the writers lives. There is so much to offer in this book. Well worth your time, and don't be surprised if you get the strong urge to get on a plane!
