Color of Grace

Bear shouted after pulling his weapon.  She dropped her gun and turned to run.  Bear shot her as she turned to run getting her in the butt.  She screamed and Margie reacted by squeezing Bear tighter.  “Stay with me baby and we will make it!” He was trying to calm her down with banter because she was really stiffening up and make it harder for him to move. “So are you still up for the roast beef, or maybe we should get takeout, Chris what you think?”  Chris was walking behind Margie like a sandwich and it was clear they had done this before because they shouted left and right and knew exactly what to do like tandem swimmers.  “We’ll call it in from the Limo, mind if I drive?”  Chris was not really directing the comment at either of them but they wanted to keep talking so Margie wouldn’t freak out.  “This is New York, Chris, why do I feel like I’m going from the firing pan to the fire, how bad can it?  Margie, are you up for more excitement?” When he didn’t get a response, he knew they were losing her.  “All most there baby.”  After they got into the elevator and the doors, closed Bear was more direct.  “Get her into the limo and drive around pick up lunch from the carry out window, otherwise don’t stop. I’ll call you when it is safe.”  By the time they got to the limousine, Bear was already to go up and start his interrogations. He didn’t need her to be there he could see she was already scared enough.  When she wouldn’t let go of him he pried her arms away.  “Chris will keep you safe and it will just be a couple hours.”
