Cora by Sharronne McNeil is a Christian story set in a small town in the US Southern States. Cora Mae has had a difficult life. As a child, she had to deal with the many forms of abuse dealt out to her by her parents on the family farm. Denied any hope of a better life outside the farm, Cora’s one bright spot is when she gets to visit her aunt. Beaten down one too many times, Cora launches a daring escape plan but her plan goes awry. Years later Cora has made so many mistakes she can barely look up to the loving God of her aunt. One thing is certainly clear; she cannot help herself so she has to look towards the only one who can.

Cora is breathtakingly tragic, a real modern-day Job story. In a time where the church is so centered on monetary blessings, this story reveals all the trash we’ve tried to sweep under the rug. It reveals the ugliness of hypocrisy and the many flaws that plague the church. Society will benefit a lot from reading this book by Sharronne McNeil. It will challenge you to walk the talk if you claim to be a follower of Christ. Cora is also a tale of facing adversity that may seem bigger than us but, in the end, becomes a testimony for others to learn from. Cora Mae’s journey to redemption is honest and told from the heart. This book will inspire you to look at others outside the flock with more compassion and perhaps a little understanding.
