This is one of the most entertaining YA books I've read. The pace really flies by, and Cowabunga is a very lovable character who in the midst of stumbling across a national security crisis through hacking, develops a serious crush on a Presidential campaign staffer, Derek. When Derek and Cowabunga join forces, buckle up. There's also satirical undertones that are so apropos for today's political times. I received an advanced reader's copy, and read it within a few days.
I've been one of the author's critique partners during much of the development of this book; when it was published, I couldn't wait to get it and read it front-to-back. It's an amazing story about a YA teen girl, a hacker who goes by the name of "Cowabunga Dude" (because hacking is such a male-dominated field), who stumbles upon and confronts a plot by a Presidential candidate to steal the election. What she does with this is remarkable, and loads of fun.
I grabbed the Kindle book pre-publication, and told the author, Wolf O'Rourc, that I wanted one of his printed books (as soon as it's available) for my eldest granddaughter, who's just the right age for this book to have a fun impact on her (it's entertaining for all ages, but as a YA adventure, it's especially great for young girls looking for a positive, alternative role model). So, highly recommended - a great read for anyone, and a positive inspiration for YA girls.
