Danger of the Sun: A Fable
Laura Schott, author
Two brothers, Rabbit and Hummingbird, are living near the equator with their guardian, the Old Owl, when an army of eagles fly south in pursuit of sunlight. Despite Rabbit and Hummingbird's warnings of the evil monkeys that long ago inhabited the great mountain, the eagles insist on carrying on with their journey, and recruit other birds of the jungle to join them in reclaiming their land- and their sunlight. While Hummingrbird elects to soar with the eagles, Rabbit observes from the ground how, in pursuit of sunlight, one's head can become stuck in the clouds. This allegorical tale teaches children to recognize what has true value in life, as well as the importance of storytelling and finding a voice in the darkest of situations.
