Darrienia follows the story of five friends who were forced together by the hand of fate to prevent an occurrence of catastrophic proportions, unaware their actions are being carefully manipulated to see they each fulfil the role required of them. What started as a seemingly innocent quest, for the truth behind a past forgotten, soon turns into a game orchestrated by a former God. His sole desire is to reclaim his sealed power and release a force upon the world so devastating that its appearance normally only marks the end of the known world. In order to prevent the demise of both worlds the story's heroes must journey through Darrienia, the world of dreams in an attempt to rescue the Oneirois, the dream guardians, who protect not only the dreamers, but the delicate boundaries between the worlds as they ensure the nightmares and horrors held sealed within their world are prevented from crossing into the waking one. Unaware that their actions are being manipulated by the God known as Night, his guidance forcing those who should be celebrated as heroes into unknowingly helping him realise his every desire, while they quest to ensure the boundaries between dream and reality remain in tact they are unaware that their actions may cause a greater harm than good. Night's powers were once sealed by the Hoi hepta sophoi within seven powerful tomes known as the Grimoire, an act that stripped Hectarian magic from the world. Yet Zoella can still use this forgotten art, and that is not her only secret. With Hectarian magic comes a great battle between light and darkness, and her choice to favour light magic saw that she created an excess of darkness within herself, one that was forced to take on its own identity and became the renowned assassin known as Marise Shi. Marise spent years of her life in control as Zoella was sealed away. It was this assassin who recovered the first six Grimoire and now she stirs once more to finish what she started. This time however she wants to ensure the personality weaved from the light magic disappears completely. Upon discovering the truth of her forcefully erased past Zoella becomes engaged in an inner conflict to suppress the darkness. But when one of her own allies is intent on retrieving the darker sides of her persona and another betrays her, the fragile grasp on all that she is begins to falter. The bonds Zoella has formed, when Marise was forcefully sealed by her own ally, prove to only strengthen her resistance, in order for Marise to once more take control, she must destroy all that Zoella holds dear. The only advantage that Marise has, is that the more her alter-ego recalls about her forgotten past, the more power she gains, until events are forced to shatter the thin dividing line between the two and the weaker of them, it seems, will be destroyed, but hopefully not before the role required of her is complete. The story follows an engaging plot and the development of the characters as their experiences temper them. Discoveries made through the course of their adventure challenge their trust and belief in both themselves and each other. The dangers sealed within Darrienia seem to do all they can to see them fail to obtain that which they seek, but the dream world is not the only place filled with dangers as ancient beasts begin to stir, rousing from their slumber as the balance of magic within the world begins to shift.
