Dex Rossi is a gawky twelve-year-old foodie who has been rolling out phyllo dough since his friends were rolling out Play-Doh! An entrepreneur at heart, he runs a gourmet lunch stand from his family's front lawn in hopes of earning enough money to buy the Gymbuff, a professional work-out system promising the perfect athletic body. Dex is keeping his plans on the down-low, certain his lanky frame is the one thing that stands between him and Sarah, the girl of his dreams, who only seems interested in going out with muscular, rich jocks who’d sooner tackle him than The French Chef Cookbook. A man on a mission, Dex is intent on expanding his business by building clientele and culinary works of art, much like his late grandfather and mentor who was the restauranteur of local landmark "Poppy's Kitchen," now being run by his grandmother. Claiming the need to renovate, she closes the restaurant leaving Dex and his family anxiously awaiting the grand re-opening. With the help of his older sister Alicia, a filmmaker shooting a documentary about Dex’s promising career for school, her Aussie cohort Jazz, along with a group of hilarious friends, Kyle, the incessant burper, Jordy, the rapper with a language all his own, and Liza, a sassy girl being raised by two gay dads, Dex is able to kick his business into high gear. As word of his talent spreads like cream cheese on a bagel, an unlikely opportunity comes his way when Dex grabs the attention of the president of the famous Eatz network who hires him to be the first kid in programming history with his own TV cooking show! His overnight success is no flash in the pan, but just when he thinks he’s got his problems licked, Dex finds himself in serious hot water with a pompous, scheming associate whose closely guarded crime could change Dex's future.
