"If you're a fan of Downton Abbey or Agatha Christie, this book is for you! The action takes place on the set of a new TV series, Cavendish Manor, in which an Oscar-winning director and a cast full of hungry young actors and seasoned veterans hope for breakout success with a retelling of actual events that unfolded around the historic estate in which they are filming. The story begins with the death of an actor in what should have been a perfectly safe dueling scene, and then we are whisked back in time to meet our cast of characters, all of whom could be seen as suspects. We find immediately that there is more than meets the eye with the main character, Anna, as she has visions of a past long before she was born.

I loved every moment of this novel. Hampstead Hall is so fully realized, I didn't want to leave. Equally as appealing is the behind-the-scenes look at the filming of a high-profile TV series. It was easy to imagine any of these fictional actors as real celebrities, and it was so fun to imagine what it would be like being there on set with them. Even with a large number of characters, I found them all well-rounded and unique. That's no easy task given how many moving pieces there were to juggle with the plot and mystery, especially with two timelines.

The pacing is steady and sure, like a train rattling right on its tracks, which puts me in mind of my favorite Agatha Christie books. The stakes are high, but there is also a level of trust--you can feel the momentum building to what is ultimately a satisfying solution.

Highly recommended for those who enjoy a high-stakes mystery without gratuitous violence, those with curiosity about the "backstage" experience of creating a TV show, or anyone who could use a getaway to a beautiful, historic English estate."
