Lazarus Solaris, the assassin known as the Chameleon finds himself working with the Israeli Mossad Director, Levi Goldstein. There might be traitor in Mossad, and Levi wants Lazarus to handle the investigation - and deal with the traitor if there is one to be found. The further he digs into the lives of the two suspects, the less things are what they appear to be.
While Lazarus is in Europe focused on two Mossad agents, things go bad at home. Benito Grasso, the rogue assassin Lazarus helped bring down eleven years ago, has finally found the "Jane Doe" who testified against him in London. Grasso wants her dead, and hires an elite contract killer to take her out. Jane Doe is none other than Rebecca Newton, best friend to Angelique Shaloub, the love of Lazarus' life, and lives in the Solaris compound on Duck Key. Angelique never told Lazarus the truth of Rebecca's past which led to unintended consequences.
The assassin makes his move when Rebecca, Angelique, Katsumi and LJ are taking a mini-vacation in Key West; Lazarus is in Miami on Foundation business. Counting on the resulting chaos for his escape, the killer makes his move in broad daylight. Duval Street, in the heart of the city is his choice location. The attempt on Rebecca leaves Leonard James (LJ), in critical condition when he takes the bullet meant for Rebecca.
Grasso's obsession with killing Jane Doe, and Lazarus' over-confidence, results in a showdown at his home Florida while Lazarus is in the Cayman Islands with Angelique, leaving a recovering LJ and two Foundation security guards to deal with Grasso's assault - or is there more to the story neither Lazarus or Grasso saw coming?
