Enduring Times takes place in Carnegie Pennsylvania in the 1900's. Jennifer and her sister were raised by their strict mother who kept them on a tight leash. Jennifer's first act of rebellion was when she applied at the Carnegie Nursing Academy. The second was when she ran off and eloped with Bill Rennie who worked at her fathers bank. When her mother found out she tried to force Jennifer to come home. When she couldn't she screamed "You'll regret the day you married him. For five years Jennifer and Bill had a beautiful life. Then their first born child suddenly dies. Her husband who is a kind gentle person, has a nervous break down. He disappears for three weeks and when he returns he is a changed man. He proceeds to tear her life apart. He is no longer Catholic and has joined a faith healing church. He refuses to work at the bank, that pays good money. He is going become a minister of the Faith healing Church, that pays very little. He forces his wife and three children to go to his church. Without his knowledge Jennifer sneaks off to the catholic church each week. She attends his church for the children's sake only. Years go by as she endures life with the help of her in-laws and without doctors and medicine. Later they are sent to the jungles of Columbia, South America to do missionary work. Bill will teach the gospel and Jennifer will heal the natives and schools the children. They live in a shack under strange conditions. and adjust to life in the jungles. For three years life is happy, until Jennifer gets pregnant. The Chief of the tribe wants to take the baby as his own when it is born. Jennifer panics and insist on going home. They work their way back to the states on a freighter. as pastor and nurse. They arrive in Philadelphia at the beginning of the great depression. They have very little money and no place to live and she 's four months pregnant. Bill has a telephone number of a Faith healing minister. They contact him and he helps them find a place to live. They call their parents in Carnegie. The families have lost everything in the depression and can't help them. From there the story is even more enduring as Bill struggles to find work and begs for money. Jennifer struggles to feed the family as she waits for the baby to arrive. Through it all she stays true to her religion, as they both believe and pray for help from the same God. Does this story have a happy ending read the book and see. 355 pages.
