At 19 years old, an ex-sophomore in college, daughter of Mexican immigrants, and really, really, ridiculously good at math - Cait starts a new life in New York City to escape her past and the lies her family told her only to find there are some things you can't run from. After meeting worldwide acting phenomenon Lincoln Shepherd, social media and the paparazzi shine a light on her life when all she wants is to keep what’s in the shadows hidden. Her mother’s death uncovered the fact that she is the child of illegal immigrants, leaving Cait to carry the secrets that aren’t her own in order to keep her family together. Unfortunately, one crazed fan decides that's not going to happen. Blackmailing Cait through Instagram, one of Lincoln's super fans forces Cait to help her land the celebrity man of her dreams - Lincoln - while Cait's life falls to pieces around her, including her plans for going back to college and (eventually) making it to Stanford's Ph.D. program in the Institute for Computational and Mathematical Engineering. Forced to adapt or suffer the consequences, Cait learns the hard way that sometimes you have to think outside the box if you want to survive.
