Ryan David Ginsberg is a 25-year-old writer/lover/live-at-homer. For Souls Like Mine is his first published collection of poetry and prose. He considers himself a romantic yet a skeptic. A lover but not a fighter. A seeker of truths and, I don’t know, but you get the point. In this collection, he deconstructs the tight knitting of society. He traverses the beauty and the ugliness of love and youth and happiness. He is raw and honest about every inch of his being. Every single hideous inch. Ginsberg explores his depression throughout this book, but he also explores his hopeful, romantic, love-seeking side. He reveals the ugly truths of society while also showing the good. Essentially, this book is just as neurotic as he is. It is a roller coaster of emotions—one that leaves you laughing and crying and reaching for a bag to vomit inside of. Sorry, maybe I should have painted a more ideal picture. A picture with unicorns and rainbows and butterflies and green grass, but that picture would not accurately describe the content inside this book. So why would I bother lying to you? Okay, I think it is best if I just leave you with the few words found on the back cover of this collection—I have been told that my writing is too depressing. But that’s fine, I write for souls like mine.
