What can happen if native workers at an African safari lodge believe a client is a god? U.S. Marshal Cain Rippinger has traveled on a ten-day trip to Jumapili Lodge, an eco-hunting-photography paradise located on the eastern edge of Tanzania’s Serengeti. Besides hunting he ends up tackling poachers, endangered rhinos and forbidden jungles. The staff, well heeled in the ways of first-class British hospitality and tradition, admires him. However it isn’t the lion’s claw or the hippo’s jaws that brings him to his knees. And for once, it isn’t a woman. It’s the supernatural. A spiritual struggle raging around him overlaps with the physical just long enough to make him appear god-like. Oblivious to what others have seen and perceive, this places him at odds with tribal customs and native superstition. It also makes him contemptible in the eyes of local witchdoctors. The natives seek to worship him and test his powers but the lodge owner anticipates nothing but trouble. Ancient traditions the owner has managed to repress have returned and they threaten everything Jumapili stands for—including the lives of everyone involved.
