This book sits next to my nightstand as a touchstone, wisdom dispensary, inspirational vortex, and guidebook.
It’s just so SO so SO helpful! For everything! And it is DEEP. Dense. Delicious.
In every chapter I run across a sentence that stops me in my tracks. "As a matter of fact, the water on earth is older than our sun.” WHAT? This is after a glorious and powerful explanation of the sacred role of water within our own bodies and all that the planet is made of, and just an “oh by the way.” The book is riddled with these. I have had to put it down for weeks at a time just to let the thoughts integrate.
As deep and as dense as it is, it is easily accessible to anyone with a spiritual interest, no matter the path. Steve writes with such reverence toward the mystery of creation, that all paths will feel respected as he explores the channels to a sacred life. He cuts through dogma to give practical steps to unlock that mystery, while honoring the connection to all who have walked their own paths before, in this dimension and others.
Sprinkled with examples from Rumi to Yoda, steeped in experiential native traditions, these pages illuminate spiritual principles from multiple angles. Built upon the foundation of ayni, the sacred practice of reciprocity, Steve lays out how you can build your foundational practice anywhere, from sacred site to urban kitchenette. He offers suggestions for the physical space, and also real, easy inner tools like,“When the tongue is relaxed, it becomes harder to talk to ourselves.”
This is a hugely transformational and yet practical book, exactly what is needed in these days of profound change and opportunity for the planet.
Steve Guettermann, Bozeman-based writer, speaker and mythologist, recently released his latest book: “How to Get Even with the Universe by Getting Right with the World: Working within Sacred Space and Time.” Gleaned from over 30 years of personal experience and tutelage with several prominent spiritual leaders, including Wallace Black Elk, Jack Schwarz and don Oscar Miro-Quesada, the book offers stories, practical approaches, simple explanations and original insights into how and why sacred space and our human potentials can work so well together to create right relationships.
