Writers Weekly

"Too sincere, and real, I didn't expect or see this coming" says a book review staff at a local home town mid-westernnewspaper, but then again its Author Marlon P. Moseley, aka Marlon Paul, who has yet another literary millstone in his Photogenic Poetry Book, and third installation- " I Am Gone Like A Shadow When It Lengthens: A Tale of An American Life." The author has seemingly weaved together a part biopic, and autobiographical tale of how he lived his youth through adulthood as a Caribbean-American adolescent and adult, which saw him take on many aspects of Black life in themid-eighties, as well as cultural, class, sexism, homophobia, racism and xenophobia. No stone was left unturned. The poignant poems of the racist killing of his friend and the other dying in shame from AIDS was beyond epic. Marlon Paul's I amGone.....is a true testament to the obvious plight that plagues all form of the black power struggle in America. Not just Black men, but black women, whites, Asians, Hispanics and all others that intermingle within the larger society of contemporaryAmerica. The title of the book is said to be taken from the Christian Bible of the 109th Psalm, which in itself when read, relays various connotations' of the downtrodden who bequests God in order to seek retribution for their trial and tribulations, which leaves you wondering who will get satisfaction and in what way and at what cost? I am Gone, reads like a new adaptation of "Shaw-Shank Redemption," as an redeemptiveness' of the soul...The image selections fit at times precisely, but then defies logic and you are left to draw your own conclusions. Some adult content mixed with abstract visuals and the appearance of an ordinary life may throw some readers for a loop, but it only adds more to the style and substance to his genre. Marlon-Paul has displayed free-form art, in a poetic sense which will help captivate his audience. His book is the guilty pleasure most of us look for, but seldom find or enjoy.

Its glorious and also captivatingly funny at times and strikes you as downright odd? But all these feeling will be overcome, once indulged in reading I Am Gone-it is truly as it states. It is not just a tale of an American Life, but the epitome of such. Get a Copy now and own it. It is certainly worth my four and three quarter stars and for Marlon-Paul, I say bravo and continued success!(Writers Weekly, November 1st, 2011).
