Isecas The Dream Cat

Children/Young Adult; General Fiction (including literary and historical); (Market)

Feeling out of place, bullied and alone, Sahar doesn't want to go to school anymore. When she's given an ancient Dream Cat, it shows her she's capable of more than she'd ever dreamed possible. Isecas The Dream Cat is a heart-warming tale about a young girl's struggle to adjust to life in a new school, in a new country. She's guided through a process of self-discovery, learning confidence and self-reliance by the mysterious and mystical Dream Cat known only as Isecas. An inspiring confidence booster for any child, and an ideal tale for any child who's transitioning to a new school or living environment.

Wonderful tale about issues that many kids deal with. Handled in a serious, but wistful way. Great for kids who have moved to a new school, but I think it's a good story for awareness for all kids.

Cute book with a very good lesson! Helps children understand that we all have more inside us than we think we do, we just sometimes need a little help seeing it!

This is an very engaging book with a unique story. The children in my life LOVED it! The book is great to use as a springboard for discussing feelings, self-esteem and treating others with respect. I can't wait to see more books about the Dream Cat!!!

A wonderful story about a young girl trying to adjust to life in a new country and her playful and mysterious guide, Isecas - an Egyptian cat. I loved the pacing of this story and the fresh persona of Isecas makes for a very welcome and atypical hero figure for young children's literature. The morals at play in this story are profound yet easy to understand, aimed as they are at younger readers who will perhaps find some familiarity in the social struggles portrayed. I found myself wishing that a sequel were available immediately.

Richard Comely - Author, Illustrator of 13 Children's books

Iseca is not an easy name to remember but Preston Squire's moving story of a little girl's struggle to feel accepted in her new school is one I will not forget. This is a powerful story and it's a page turner to boot. Isecas The Dream Cat is a book that new comers to Canada or any other country will appreciate. Children who are born in Canada will love this book just for the imaginative and heart tugging tale it weaves. They will empathize with the lead characters and I think will better understand what it feels like to be a new Canadian trying to learn a new language and make new friends. Though the illustrations could be more polished they still manage to capture the heart of the story. A great cover. I too, would love to see a sequel.

The illustrations inspire the imagination of the reader. I felt like I was with Sahar and wanted so much to be her friend. We have all needed the assistance of Isecas at some point in our lives to help us to find our inner strength and apply it to many situations! Many thank you's to Preston and Dixie for bringing this wonderful story to life!!
