Jonah Havensby, is a highly entertaining story that blends elements of science fiction and contemporary fantasy into a rousing and original shifter story. There's non-stop action and adventure, and I can honestly say I was excited and smiling while I was reading this book - it's that good. Jonah Havensby goes high up on my list of favorite books for this year, and I'm very much looking forward to the next book in this series.
The idea of a Martian being raised among us is a great idea. I know it is not a completely new twist on things but I feel that Bob Bannon does breathe fresh life into this genre. I love the way this story unfolds and how it is written. The narrative is compelling and you truly feel as if you are going along with Jonah as he finds out things about himself. Once you pick this one up it is not likely you are going to be able to put it back down again easily. I read it from cover to cover in very little time and I would highly recommend it as a read.
The author guides the story through to the discovery of Jonah's true identity, and it's here where Mr. Bannon's wide ranging imagination comes to the fore. Every good story needs more than a single character and there are plenty here, too. Jonah's closest friends, Emma and Eric M, are the other primary protagonists guaranteed to tickle most readers' fancy. Personally, I would like to have seen less narrative detail that, in some cases, was extremely long. I'd also prefer more conflict. Regardless of these, I would recommend Jonah Havensby to all fans of YA paranormal, science fiction.
