Journey of an American Son by John Hazen is one woman’s story of the race against time to save her husband. Benjamin Albert is a war hero, a husband and father, and is on the road to success at his firm. He gets the opportunity to travel to India for business and grabs it with both hands. Finding himself in a prison in Calcutta, framed for murder, he is astonished when his government ignores him, leaving him to fend for himself. Enter Catherine, his wife, who decides it is up to her to save her husband. Catherine battles through nationalism, corruption, racism and women’s rights to save her husband, but is she in time?

Journey of an American Son by John Hazen was riveting reading. I found myself totally engrossed in the story, held by vivid characters and a fascinating storyline. Hazen has a style of writing that is easy to follow and he knows how to draw up a plot that will keep you on your toes. Set in the 1920s, the story is pretty realistic and mimics a lot of what really went on. The characters are believable and I found myself in sympathy with them on more than one occasion! It’s like opening the doors on history and reliving it vicariously. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole story. I think this book is actually excellent film material as well. Looking forward to reading more from Mr. Hazen in the very near future.
