It is the last summer before high school, Claire's last summer as a child before a tragedy and its aftermath propel her into adulthood. The child of an alcoholic father, Claire weaves deftly between comedy and tragedy, making sense of her senseless world. She tries as only a child can, in vain, to protect her sister from the violence of a man who can switch so quickly from a man to a monster.
