When you first pick up Lorna Stremcha's "Lose the Baggage, Lose the Weight", you may want to immediately pigeonhole it as just another self-help book. I know I did. For me, self-help is a genre that never, ever works. I don't like easy, cookie cutter answers to life's complexities, a quality I've come to expect in such books.

Then I began reading.
If this is self-help (and I don't think it is), then it is unlike anything I've ever seen. Stremcha doesn't just talk about the issues women face, she engages the reader and does so on a most intimate level. She discloses her own life struggles and asks the reader to do the same. The chapters are sub-divided into 1) smaller `puzzle piece' sections, 2) quotes, 3) workbook-like exercises, and, my favorite device, 4) writing opportunities. That's right, you, the reader will write your own reflections, list those things about which you are thankful, dump your own baggage, etc. By its very nature, writing draws one out and becomes a process of self-discovery. Recognizing this is a stroke of genius and sets this book apart from the rest. In this regard, Lose the Baggage isn't just another read. It is a journey that if taken for what it is will bring the reader to a new place.
