I loved this book! This is Jamie’s first book and what an amazing beginning. Let me just say, this is not my normal go to genre to read, but it’s well worth taking a chance on this new author. Ms. Matthews is talented as few others are, for a first time author. Her work is polished and so well written. She draws you into the story from the first paragraph and has you hooked.

Mild spoilers ahead: Amy Malone, after a heartbreaking loss, heads to Lopez Island to fix up a run-down B & B that she’s inherited. Expecting to only make the place habitable, sell it, and move back home, she finds herself falling in love with the beautiful Inn and its surroundings, and making a go of it. She enjoys the laid back, relaxed island atmosphere and the updated B & B begins to flourish under her care. As time passes and her heart begins to mend, she finds her happiness again.

Enter Ben Morrison, famous movie star and Hollywood heartthrob. Ben is immensely talented and was once a hugely sought after actor. After a series of poor career decisions and a devastatingly embarrassing moment caught on national TV, Ben is at a crossroads and needs a change. Knowing he’s unhappy with his life in general and the state of his career in particular, Ben flees his life of glitz and glamor for a much needed hiatus. Having once been told of the charming Lopez Island, Ben decides to go with his gut and rest up on the secluded isle and figure out what he wants to do with his life.

Without giving too much of the story away, a quirky twist of fate has Amy disgusted with Ben, and Ben–none the wiser–very confused by his annoyed innkeeper. Regardless of their rough (and highly amusing) beginning, sparks fly between the two and you find yourself hoping for the best for this unlikely pair.

My advice—from someone that loves a good heartwarming romance—is to take a chance on this new author and enjoy the ride. You’ll find yourself smiling, laughing, and excited to see what happens. I know I will be reading Ms. Matthews work again.
