Assessment:
Fans of cozy mysteries who want a heavy dose of romance in their whodunits are most likely to enjoy this novel -- although readers will need to be willing to suspend disbelief from the outset. The book opens with PI Chelsey Alton finding that a love-interest, cop Bryce Kelly, has broken into her home after becoming the prime suspect in the murder of a police chief. Of course, Chelsey doesn’t turn him in, but works to exonerate him. While the approach is clearly tongue-in-cheek -- and at times very entertaining -- the characters are underdeveloped and the story less than original.

Major Crimes is a revealing, compelling mystery story that's hard to put down. Driven by interpersonal relationships, a sassy combination of fun and angst, murder and mayhem, and dangerous associations, it's an emotion-driven and yet is a light, fun mystery that's perfect for a cozy winter's night.
Major Crimes is a whimsical, fun, light hearted mystery. Michele Lynn Seigfried has created characters with great personalities that are very true to their New Jersey roots. If you are looking for a good mystery with a touch of humor, romance, detective work and more, then Major Crimes is a surefire winner. The story was new and fresh and there was never any question as to what information I could be missing. This is a quick and entertaining mystery sleuth book that I highly recommend.
