Marta Morales is a divorced forty-year-old Puerto Rican maid that works out of Chicago, Illinois. Marta’s world is small. Marta could be doing more with her life but lives in the remnants of the disappointments that have been inflicted on her, as well as the disappointments that she’s inflicted on herself. After twelve years of an angry marriage, she divorces Anibal and moves out. Small cleaning gigs led to an occupation of working as a housekeeper, which was enough to support herself and her son, Hector. When Hector becomes of age, he leaves home to marry his sweetheart and join the Army. However, an IED takes his life. Marta’s family members in Puerto Rico - her mother and her brother Rafael - are the only comforting presences in her life but are barely enough to prevent her from burrowing even further into her angry, hurt hole in the ground. One day, something changes. While on a routine cleaning job at a law firm for Francis Street Cleaners, she witnesses a crime-filled video that wakes her up and reminds her of what she should have been - a police officer. While it’s too late for civil service, Marta knows that she can be more. People have other ideas for Marta, though. The owner of the Francis Street Cleaners, Maria Alvarez, wants Marta to help her score a payday from the lawyers Marta saw in the crime video. Marta is street smart, though, and wants nothing to do with criminals, lawyers, and even her own cleaning company. When Maria doesn’t let up on her dream of a six-figure payday, Marta decides to quit Francis Street Cleaners and start her own cleaning operation. With inspiration coming through a troubled friend, she decides to also resume the investigative part of her life that she had shelved years ago. She helps identify a stalker, as well as giving a friend the strength to reach out for help. However, Marta’s problems are not over. Not only is Maria Alvarez hounding her as well as the perpetrators of the crime video she witnessed, two very intriguing police detectives won’t let her walk away, either. What none of them count on is Marta’s hunger for a new life. Maria’s manipulations fail, as do the law firm’s manipulations. However, when an enemy tries to eliminate Marta, she entrusts her life to two detectives who will not fail her. Marta comes out ahead because Marta Cleans Up.
