MEN IN THEIR PRIME
In the comic tradition of Cyra McFadden’s ‘70s spoof novel The Serial and Armistead Maupin’s eccentric Tales of the City series, Men In Their Prime presents an ensemble cast of contemporary characters who are “past the midlife crisis and not dead yet.” Ed Ricci is a white-haired surfer and book publisher in search of immortality, Joe Stellar is a spiritual guru who specializes in no-touch orgasms, Victor Maas is a Marin County Realtor whose home is in foreclosure, Jacques de Lyons is a thrifty-wine merchant from France, and Charles Farnsworth III is a big, fat, combative attorney who enjoys a good, old-fashioned brawl. When Ed invites the men to launch an all-male book group, they scoff, but as they read, talk, and disagree, they begin to unravel emotionally, each man in his own way. In the course of the year, the men form true friendships and learn to face facts about aging bodies, the value of money, the challenges of fatherhood, and the hell of divorce, love, politics, and war. Shifts happen. Men In Their Prime is a collaboration by a man and a woman, just friends, who met at a Marin County café. Marianne Rogoff is the author of Love Is Blind in One Eye: 7 Stories, the memoir Silvie’s Life, and award-winning travel stories, short fiction, feature essays, and book reviews. Tom Verkozen is a Vietnam veteran who was a patient care team member with Hospice for over twenty years. He is a co-creator of Dancing Coyote Beach, a bed and breakfast sanctuary on the bay in Inverness, California.
