A Two-Edged Sword
Ultimately this is a fun and funny book, but also incredibly intense and serious...case in point- the myriad allusions and pop culture references. One moment we have a character delivering a throwaway line with the finesse of a practiced stand-up comedian. The next moment we encounter a dialogue that challenges us to explore the eternal and "other." For some readers this will be a draw and for others it will be somewhat daunting, hence my two-edged sword appellation. I need someone to read it and hyper-analyze with me!
Beautifully written!
I'm real mixed about this book. It was very well written. The world building was good. The characters were okay. I didn't particularly get into them. And the story itself was all over. I had a hard time following it. I put it down several times and then went back to give it another chance. There is a lot to like in this book if you can follow the story.
