More Than I Can Bear If Not For God

Adult; Memoir; (Market)

More Than I Can Bear is partly autobiography and mostly personal memoir of the author and his family. Philemon Topas earned his undergraduate degree in Zoology and Botany in his native country where, as a budding Christian, he participated and was involved in the university Christian fellowship. He traveled abroad for an MSc. studies in Entomology. He proceeded to another University for Ph.D. studies in the same field. He married a Citizen of the Country where he pursued his graduate studies. They have been married for 37 years and have four children and eleven grandchildren. The faith of the author and his family were destabilized and tested by tragedy. He developed eye problems and a plethora of other health issues shortly after knee surgery. The deterioration of his eye problems left him blind in the right eye. The vision in his left eye is very low. He also has respiratory problems and uses puffers to be able to breathe well. He has undergone two cornea transplant operations on the left eye. A combination of gas permeable contact lens and prescription glasses enable him to read at close range. He also uses special telescopic glasses for long-distance vision.  His wife has had three breakdowns due to the unbearable stressful situation the family is under. She is also on several medications to deal with depression and anxiety.

The onset of the illnesses and diseases after his knee surgery and consultation with other doctors make the author believe that unauthorized genetic experimentation, on him, happened during his knee surgery. He also had problems with his Ph.D., academic mentor and the immigration authorities. The later problems were due to the health issues when he applied for citizenship in his wife’s Country.  He has not been able to get steady and long-term employment since he completed his Ph.D. studies, 37 years ago. The family went from welfare to disability income. He is now on a meager amount old age pension due to his inability to have contributed to his pension income. The family’s ordeal devastated them and revealed to them that the events and trials they are dealing with are proof of God’s power and ability to purify believers, even with the fiery oven, for the glory and fulfillment of God’s plan and purpose. The family’s belief and devotion to God have been the pillar and anchor that have enabled them to endure the ongoing ordeal. Their efforts to seek compensatory damages and put an end to the ordeal have, so far, been fruitless.  He is willing and ready to substantiate his allegation, but his efforts have been hindered by the lack of financial and other resources.

Pen names are used for the names of the people, locations and academic institutions, in the book. This was done pending the legal resolution of the family’s ordeal.
