A guide to concise, commanding communiques

I have a place in my Kindle where I keep my copies of Gisela Hausmann’s NAKED series handy for whenever I need to double-check on one of her helpful tips. When I started to read NAKED WORDS: The Effective 157-Word Email, I soon realized I had a few things to work on before I’d be “the likeable person whose emails others wanted to read first.” Gisela Hausmann talks about the importance of being friendly, personal, and clear about ones message. She shows how-to from a sample email. “Your mail needs to have the same impact as if you had a short meeting in person with the recipient,” she says. I know first hand that when I take the time to do that, I get a positive response back. There are also many samples of what not to say in a letter. Gisela Hausmann’s explanation why that is so, is a lesson as important as learning what to say. Among countless other things, we learn about salutation and closing, why templates may not always work. The greeting chapter was a big Aha! for me. There are so many helpful tips in this little book I could go on and on. I highly recommend it!
