Alyse Nennig, author
All vampires were once human. Who says they can't be again? Carrying invisible wounds from a tragic childhood, Hannah Jacobs doesn't allow herself to fall in love - until she meets John Trott. Sexy as hell, charming, and sensitive, she immediately finds herself drawn to him and, within days, giving him her heart. Twice broken, John effortlessly makes her heart whole again, except Hannah's buried fear threatens to shatter it once more as dangerous circumstances reveal dark secrets. One is a vampire and the other a vampire hunter, making a relationship impossible as they’ve been labeled natural enemies throughout history. A witch's journal, however, tells a much different tale. Centuries old it holds a dark and troubled past with a cure and prophecy, giving Hannah and John a future. But, it's one they'll never see… if she has a shattered heart.

"What happens when a vampire and a vampire hunter fall in love, but each has no idea who the other really is? Never Again is a paranormal romance by Alyse Nennig, the first installment in the Book of Origins series, and deals with exactly that question in a rather appealing way. Hannah has been hunting vampires since she was a teenager. Both of her parents had been killed by vampires, and Hannah wants to find the one vampire responsible for their deaths. John is a vampire who tried to kill himself countless times because he's not happy being what he is. The problem is that he is an unusually powerful vampire and nothing can kill him. Even sunlight and silver are no issues. When he meets Hannah in a bar, the two instantly connect and within a few days become an inseparable couple with a very special bond. What they both do not know is that their union could mean that the world of humans and vampires would change for good - and some clearly do not want this to happen.

Never Again by Alyse Nennig is an entertaining read that will keep readers occupied for a few hours. The book ends on a cliffhanger - so be warned, you might want to read the rest of the series, too! While I don't believe that people could have such an instant deep connection in real life, it seems to work plot-wise. After all, there is also some sort of explanation behind the bond (won't spoil it here). I found it nice that all the characters had something unique that made them stand out, i.e. they were not just flat characters who had little to say and little value to add. I particularly like that in a book, and a library plays such an important role for the plot - but again, I am not going into details. You'll need to read it yourself to get your answers. I am sure that fans of light vampire novels with plenty of erotic content (but not excessive) will enjoy this book."

Nom de Plume Book Review

"What better way to end the month than with a vampire who falls in love with a vampire hunter?! Gaawd this book makes my life complete.

Immediately, we are thrust into the angst. Alyse Nennig is not holding back! Our heroine, Hannah, is a vampire hunter and she has closed off her heart. So much, in fact, that she completely ignores it—does she even have one?

John Trott is our swoony God of sexy, and of course Hannah can’t resist. She tries…but please. He is about to nibble on Hannah’s heart with his vampire hotness. John is ready to trample all over this woman!

“Based on experience you seem to have a hard time resisting me. However, if being charming doesn’t work, I am not opposed to begging…I bid you good night and sweet dreams…perhaps of me.”

John may make Hannah all tingly inside, but (and there is always a but) there’s darkness in store for these two. Baggage. Doubt. Fears. Secrets. Hannah has some seriously negative juju in her pocket, but it’s nothing compared to what John’s carrying on his back. These two are destined to fail from the beginning!

They are opposites—a perfect juxtaposition—yet they perfectly complete one another.

Slowly, Hannah’s story unravels atop John’s and their stories merge into one. They are two individuals drowning in mediocracy and they don’t realize all they could have until they find each other.

Well…until John lies. Why does he have to do this? Gah!

John’s secrets have the capacity to hurt Hannah, he risks everything to protect her…yet he still manages to break her heart. Hannah’s shell of a body has finally started to fill with color, but she’s at risk of being shoved back into living in black and white.

Is that worth it?

Hell naw, girlfriend! You run away from that sexy vampire man STAT.

But can she run? Not after knowing what love feels like…

Oooo friends, Never Again is totally enrapturing from start to finish. The plot is a mix of everything: action, romance, mystery. Things are never as they seem, and Alyse Nennig has beautifully captured the complexity of fate and what one will do for love: everything.

I died inside reading this book and John Trott brought me back to life."

"Never Again by Alyse Nennig is the first book in the paranormal romance series known as Origins. This is a book that would appeal most to a mixed audience of adults and young adults who enjoy supernatural romance novels and do not mind explicit sex scenes. Hannah Jacobs is a young woman who has had her heart broken one too many times, which puts her off love entirely - until a surprise encounter changes her mind. John Trott is everything Hannah would want in a man; he is sexy, charming, and sensitive to her wants and needs. Yet, what should be an easy love match is complicated by the fact that they are vampire and vampire hunter. Can they ignore the history between their kinds in order to make something better, or will Hannah’s broken heart prove too big a challenge?

Move over Edward and Bella and make room for John and Hannah! Never Again by Alyse Nennig is a breath of fresh air amidst a slew of stale vampire romances. Unlike most vampire romances, this book does not in any way mirror the Twilight series - instead it sets itself apart as a unique romance between two races that have proven to be enemies over the course of history. The uniqueness of a romance between a vampire and a vampire hunter is what originally drew me in, but it was Alyse Nennig’s writing style that kept me enthralled with well-developed characters and an unpredictable plot. Overall, I greatly enjoyed reading this book and I look forward to reading the rest of the Origins series."
