Of the Dragonfly
Audrey Gene, author

Adult; Romance; (Market)

She had the dreams. She had the dirt and the blood of wounds to prove it. She was living another life in a different realm.

When twenty-three-year-old Evangeline Sinclair is not floating through the grey halls of the corporate world, she is researching dolphins in the blue waters of the Bahamas, at the side of a man she is deeply in love with. That is where she is until she wakes.

As she brings physical evidence back from her dreams, she can no longer deny the actuality of this other existence. Evangeline must trust her dreams and the guidance of a mystical being—a dragonfly—to find this man and the life she has come to know and love.

But when she arrives in the Bahamas, she discovers it is not the paradise she had hoped for. She is suddenly caught in the middle of an FBI conspiracy. The fight for survival has begun and her search for love has ended. At least that’s what she’s been made to believe.

Of the Dragonfly hooked me with the first chapter and I willingly, enthusiastically let Audrey Gene take me on a fascinating journey with exciting twists and turns in almost each chapter.  She juggles the mystical with nail-biting adventure with ease and confidence.

Audrey Gene has dreams turn into reality not only for Evy and Christian, but for you as the reader in Of the Dragonfly. Evangeline feels very lost in her life. It seems almost as though she isn't living the life she is meant to. Then, she begins to have dreams that are apparently real. It is very hard for her to believe that, but when she wakes up with sand in her bedroom or lying on the couch, soaking wet after swimming in the ocean in her dream, she can no longer deny the truth. On top of this, a surreal dragonfly appears in her bedroom. This dragonfly appears to be a guide of some kind and remains with her off and on throughout the story.

Evy comes to realize in her dreams that she is deeply in love with a very handsome man, Christian. When her dreams show her that he is in trouble and give her a sign with the name of an island, she makes arrangements to take time off work to find him. She has told no one of her seemingly crazy dreams, and brazenly makes the trip to an island few tourists ever visit alone. What she discovers there is devastating. Her life is in grave danger, and only the FBI can protect her ... or are they her enemy? Will Evy find Christian? Is it possible that he has had similar dreams too?

A sweet and profound love story merged with more than one intriguing mystery, this is an exceptionally unique romance novel. Audrey Gene's Of the Dragonfly is beautifully written, which reflects the beauty of the love story within its pages. Mystery, transpersonal experiences, deep secrets, and powerful love transcend simple words written on the pages of a book. Of the Dragonfly is a unexpected romantic tale that will keep you turning page after page until the very end.

Alberta author's self-published novel Of the Dragonfly written in 30 days

By Louis B. Hobson, Calgary Sun

Five years ago Audrey Gene set a challenge for herself.

She'd had an idea for a suspense novel percolating for a couple of months.

"It was Nov. 15, 2009 and I challenged myself to write my novel in 30 days.

"Knowing myself, if I didn't set a deadline I'd just have procrastinated," says Gene who lives just outside Strathmore.

On Dec. 15 she gave herself an early Christmas present. Her novel Of the Dragonfly was finished but then the work really began.

Gene had decided to self-publish her novel."I found and worked with an editor for a year.

"The biggest challenge here was not to allow myself to be discouraged with the suggestions I received and to be open to suggestions and rewrites.

"When the editor has signed off, Gene then set about designing the book cover by herself.

"If I didn't have access to the Internet, I'd still be sitting in front of a stack of papers.

"I learned so much about the self-publishing industry and how to avoid pitfalls.

"My biggest hold up in the five years since I vowed to write Of the Dragonfly was my own extreme anxiety and fear.

"It was always fears I created about the novel not connecting with readers.

"There were times I came very close to scrapping the whole project but I had a lot of encouragement and support from my husband, family and friends.

"The novel was ready to publish and release in 2011 and I wish I'd taken the leap back then.

"Gene is in the process of an extended book signing tour through Chapters and Indigo who she says "have been supportive beyond my wildest imagination.

"I've already had seven signings and have four more scheduled.

"Gene will be at the Macleod Trail Chapters on July 12 from noon to 4 p.m. to sign copies of her book and to talk with people who may be contemplating a similar journey.

On July 26 Gene with her novel Of the Dragonfly will be at Crowfoot Chapters and on Aug. 23 at Sunridge Spectrum Chapters and on Aug. 27 at Chinook Centre Chapters.
