Over My Dead Body
When the director of Child Protective Services uses his position to exact a personal vendetta in removing three-year-old Ashley from the Blake’s home, Jeff Blake, a financial advisor, responds to the threats in the only way he feels he can – violently. By the end of the short encounter, three people are dead and Ashley, the daughter, is still taken and placed in temporary foster care, so the tragic fiasco gained Jeff nothing. Matters are further complicated when Amy, the wife and mother, winds up for a brief stay in a mental ward due to the trauma she witnessed in her home. It seems as though everything is against the Blakes. Understandably, the police, as well as the Courts, are not too concerned with the needs of the family. Complete with many twists of fate, the story looks at the common problems of a typical family caught between love and the law.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It is well written and no bad language! That's hard to find today. The book keeps you on the edge of your seat, so to speak. Do yourself a favor and order it today...but, be ready to lose sleep until you get it finished!

With Over My Dead Body, author Bruce Borders creates a situation that, though fictional, certainly carries frightening potential in the real world.

When financial adviser Jeff Blake refuses to divulge insider information with the director of the local Child Protective Services, it’s Blake’s own child who suffers the consequences. How far would a parent go to protect his/her child from a corrupt system? Blake goes all out, leaving damage in his wake and uncertainty in his future.

Bruce Borders has written an intriguing story filled with twists and turns reminiscent of old-fashioned hard-boiled thrillers. This is one of those books that is difficult to put down, and will ultimately force readers to ponder the obvious question: “What if this happened to my family?”

What would you do if a corrupt social worker sent local officials to your door to take your child away based on trumped up charges? This fast paced suspense story is sure to keep turning its pages as this skillful author unveils corruption of the powerful and injustice in a system that is controlled and can be manipulated by those in authority. Jeff Blake and his family are living the nightmare. Looking for a well-written tale of suspense that is sure to give readers pause for thought? OVER MY DEAD BODY fits the bill!

As a parent, Over My Dead Body really got me thinking. The idea that CPS could possibly take my child away--even though I had done nothing wrong is beyond frightening! Bruce Borders' tale of Jeff Blake's journey to protect his family is as enjoyable as it is fast-moving. Not only is this book very well written, but the characters and story held my interest. I highly recommend this book and I'm very much looking forward to reading other works by this author in the future.

Bruce A. Borders' writing was captivating.  You hear people all the time say, “I was hooked from the very first page!” Well, with this book, you really are.  I recently finished reading “OVER MY DEAD BODY” and let me tell you, the writing was so “real” and so “believable” that I can’t stop thinking about how these things really do, and can happen…to any of us.  I often say to my daughters, “When you awake each morn and walk out your door, you never know what your life will be that day.” OVER MY DEAD BODY will forever have you thinking this very same thought.

Is it murder if you’re protecting your daughter? The day begins like any other, a typical Monday morning. Jeff Blake leaves for work as usual to the investment brokerage firm of Avian Financial Services in downtown Fairfield, where he works as an investment advisor. Unfortunately, the arrival of a new client changes everything. Mr. Clint Parkens, Director of Child Protective Services for Grover County, threatens to take Jeff’s three-year-old daughter Ashley into protective custody unless he provides an insider trading advantage for Parkens’ investments.

Over My Dead Body by Bruce A. Borders is a fast paced, dramatic and edgy story about how one can abuse the power they have in a legal system which is supposed to be used for the good of the people. Borders’ writing style is clear cut, making the narrative highly readable and engaging from the beginning until the end. Readers would find it easy to immerse themselves in the story. It’s also effortless to relate to the characters as they are well developed. I found it hard to stop reading as I really wanted to know what would happen next.

Over My Dead Body is a parent’s worst nightmare. The fact that it could happen in the real world, since greed and corruption can make anyone do the unthinkable, is simply frightening. The premise of the story is a valid, thought provoking, although daunting view of what type of crime can happen (perhaps, it already did) in the legal system. On the whole, this is a solid read.
