Wow. I Liked a Book About Stand-Up Comedy!, November 27, 2016
In this heartfelt, edgy coming-of-age story, the author essentially abandons his senior year of high school to take on the world of stand-up comedy. In this up-close and personal narrative, the reader experiences the highest highs and the lowest lows, from figuring out how to put a joke together, to bonding with the other comics, to achieving (at least brief) rock star status – with comedy groupies, no less. Impressively, unlike most books about comedy, the author does an excellent job here of dissecting the frog without killing it in the process. The Power of Jokes permeates this book – in recurrent explanations, ethical debates, jokes as driving forces to the method and madness of the comics using them, and as pure Greek Chorus – in a way that’s rarely seen in fiction. I honestly was surprised to like a book about Stand-Up Comedy. Clearly, “Plrknib” was the book I was waiting for. Highly Recommended.
