SAM finds Love
Lou Kamradt, author
Sam, a young opinionated woman who was pregnant, left St. Louis to work in a small town in Wyoming. Sam stepped down the steps of the stagecoach from Casper, Wyoming. “I am here!” she shouted to no one in particular. Her stomach did flip-flops as she put her hands on her hips and feet firmly on the ground. I’m so excited I think my heart will burst. --She smiled thinking about the start of her new life. A buckboard pulled by a team of dark brown horses clattered toward her. A well-built cowboy wearing a new looking hat held the reins. The brim was pushed back, and she had a clear view of a most handsome face. Two attorneys’ hired her; one was elderly and the other his son. The trip to the attorney’s office gave Sam another look at the stores on Main Street. She passed the doctor’s office, post office, and Mason’s Mercantile, a place that was necessary to see. There would be items to purchase for her new home, the house yet to buy. There won’t be many shopping sprees like in St. Louis. But, I won’t miss St. Louis. I know I’ll need to be more frugal with money, especially since there will soon be two of us to support. She opened her own business and hired Laura to work for her and Faye, to cook and keep the house. Sam was introduced to a new way of life; one activity was a pie supper at the church. Mrs. Lewis, the town mid-wife delivered her baby, Matt who was loved by everyone. After a tragedy happened, Sam had a difficult time recovering and went back to St. Louis to find herself. Her husband, Ted, came and brought her back home. There they decided to start another business that required more employees. Some of her friends called upon Sam to give them her insightfulness to their problems. Sam, Ted, and their three children happily lived on the ranch that became The Dude Ranch.
