"...a collection of short stories takes readers on a lyrical journey through Saratoga Springs as seen through the eyes of longtime residents and newcomers alike."
After 15 years as a journalist — including a stint at The Post-Star — Thomas Dimopoulos has notebooks full of information.
Some he uses right away in articles. Some information is tucked away.
But the stories that remain on the pages of his notepad call to him.
“As a journalist, you come across stories and people in circumstances that are special or stand out for one reason or another, but who you’re unable to really follow up on in-depth,” he said. “From them would come ... those whose stories I thought should be told.”
That led Dimopoulos to write “Saratoga Stories: Magic and Loss,” a collection of 15 stories, dozens of images and two timelines that tell intimate stories about Saratoga Springs and its residents. The book coincides with the city’s 100th anniversary.
“The stories are something I’ve lived with my 15 years as a journalist, and I’m happy to be able to share that,” Dimopoulos said.
This self-published volume is a collection of 15 stories featuring events and individuals from Saratoga, written over a number of years for The Saratogian, the Post-Star, and Saratoga Wire. Collected here for the first time, many have been updated and rewritten.
"Saratoga Stories" also contains dozens of arresting black-and-white photographs taken by the author. It also features a 100-year timeline of the history of Saratoga Springs and a separate timeline, since 1967, of performances at Saratoga Performing Arts Center.
