Scoundrel In Disguise
Shaela Kay, author

For five years, Jameson Rex has harbored a startling secret. When his uncle uncovers the truth and threatens to expose him, the disinherited Rex removes to London in search of a wealthy wife. But rumors of his disgrace have already rippled through the ranks of society, marking Rex as a scoundrel, a rake, and worst of all – an ineligible bachelor.

The rumors flying through town are not all about Rex, however. Charming, vivacious, and completely unaffected, Sarah Mendenhall has quickly become the most sought-after débutante in London. Despite the masses vying for her affections, Sarah is resolved to enjoy her first season in town, and vows not to accept a single proposal, no matter how handsome or wealthy the gentleman offering may be.

Desperate for funds, Rex accepts a wager to woo the unconquerable Miss Mendenhall, embarking on a whirlwind courtship that puts both of their reputations on the line. But will his triumph be worth the price he must pay? Bound to secrecy, driven by duty, and forced to choose between saving her innocence and saving himself, Rex is determined that nothing will stop him from winning her heart – even if it makes him a scoundrel.

Great second novel from Shaela Kay! I was excited to learn Sarah's story and I flew through this one. Rex was the perfect "bad boy" hero and very mysterious. I loved the dialogue between Sarah and Rex. Laughed out loud in several parts. There was plenty of romantic tension and drama without being too cheesy. One part was slightly predictable to me but not enough to ruin the story. Another wonderful, clean Regency romance!

This author's stories continue to surprise and delight! This new book (#2 in the series) was such an enjoyable experience from start to finish. Sarah Mendenhall is quite entertaining to read (albeit at times silly; getting herself into scrapes), and much of the story is about her and very well written; I really liked seeing the changes in Sarah's character and heart, but it's the author's talent to reveal the dilemmas hidden in Rex's heart that made it such a fun story for me. As a man, I found it extremely fun to read; I could relate. The plot was cleverly laid out and masterfully shown to the reader through the elements of surprise and the characters choices. You know those books that transport you INTO the room, setting, or scene? This was one of those rare works. What I loved most about this book was the author's description of the characters' surroundings! What vivid description! The clever wording was used to draw the reader into the scene of the countrysides, the masquerade, and London's upscale manors. Each character was well written and clearly defined, even the changes in maturing characters was evident. I look forward to more from this author!
