Secrets
John Callas, author
Opens in 1942 on a mission to Nazi headquarters in Berlin. Under cover, GUS and a group of American soldiers easily infiltrate the building. Gus discovers crucial documents, which are beyond who wins or loses the war. It is essential these documents are delivered to his superiors. Their cover is blown and all are killed in the escape except Gus. In N.Y., present day, JOE, Gus's son, and CHRISTINA make intense love then lay in bed talking. They have fallen in love but on this particular evening Christina is forced to tell him something that will change the course of their love and send them on a dangerous mission. She reveals her secret that she is there to recruit him into a task force of special operatives assigned to finish off the American/Nazi cartel that Gus (Joe’s dead father) had exposed many years before. Joe goes to his parent's grave. Unsure about what he sees at the grave, he goes to the library and searches for their obituary on microfilm. When he finds it, there is no mention of his mother. Christina meets with him and admits that his mother is still alive. He goes to the suburbs to his mom's, PAULINE'S, house. She tries to turn Joe away at first, but caves in and tells Joe that if she hadn't stayed away while he was growing up, they would have both been killed. At the mission meeting, details of the cartel's attempts and experimentation with mind control are revealed. In the final stages this experimentation led to the development of a chip, which could be implanted in all humans to control them through drug therapy. Joe and Christina first penetrate into a high security Cartel building in Berlin where they discover the two main bases of operation. One is in the glaciers of the North Pole, the second in a secret space station behind the moon. SURGEON, the head of mission operations, complements them on a job well done and gives instructions for the next assignment. Meanwhile, GREG, a special agent from the meeting speaks to WIDOW, head of the cartel. He is a mole, but a greedy one. He tries to cut a better deal with Widow before revealing the names of the operatives on their way to the North Pole facility. A sniper kills Greg immediately. The sniper then returns to his apartment... It explodes. Joe and Christina successfully infiltrate the North Pole facility. They sit through a demonstration of the implanted chip in which a British secret agent is ordered to kill a helpless civilian. That evening two more agents, SAL and LUIS, sneak inside to help Joe and Christina destroy the facility. In the process, they are exposed. Guards attack with laser guns. Sal and Luis are killed in the action. Joe and Christina make it to an escape spacecraft, which launches out of the glacier moments before detonation. They leave earth and head toward the space station. Christina and Joe dock at the space station. COMMANDER ANDROVICH meets them at the airlock and invites the two to dinner. Surgeon receives a coded message. Earth's defense satellites are re positioning to deflect the sun's heat directly at the space station. Joe and Christina have exactly two hours. \tAt dinner Joe and Christina argue with Androvich about morality issues. They are invited to stay and join the master race. The two regretfully decline. They are taken to a decompression room, but the one killer's hormones get the best of him. He begins undressing her, and while reaching around to unsnap the bra, a mist sprays out into his eyes. Joe takes out the other one. Widow shows up (her true identity revealed) and explains how she has manipulated them from the start. Before killing them, Joe blinds her with a flash from his watch. The two escape and are relentlessly pursued. They wind up in an engineering room, trapped. Joe comes up with a plan to save their lives. They put on space suits and blast out the side of the station sending them into space. After stabilizing themselves, they maneuver their way to a docked shuttle bay. A final battle ensues. Joe and Christina narrowly escape the station as it is incinerated. Another ship is seen being hurled through space. It has Widow on board. \tDESWICK, one of Widow's right hand men, manages to sneak on board. Determined to kill them, Joe and Christina barely escape in a pod, and watch from a distance as the shuttle implodes crushing Deswick with a final scream of Hiel Hitler - Then silence. Fade to a beach restaurant in Fiji, where Joe and Christina sip martinis. They take off their cloths and run into the ocean together laughing. Joe is having a moment of bliss, not knowing that on his chair, inside the locket and behind the pictures of his mother and father, holds the remaining keys to his past, his future, and the total sum of information that his mother and father died protecting. Inside holds the Secrets.

This book should be produced as a blockbuster movie. Each scene is written with rich detail that puts you in the moment. Full of action, with twists and turns I could never anticipate. I turned the last page wanting more.

5.0 out of 5 starsI really enjoyed this book

As a fan of spy novels (James Bond rocks!), I really enjoyed this book. It's fast paced and every chapter made me want to continue reading. Anytime I'm wondering 'what's going to happen next?', or 'How are they going to get out of this one?' I know I'm hooked, and this book had me hooked from the beginning. The only question I had after reading it is, "Where is the sequel?"
The book takes you around the world and beyond (no spoilers) with believable characters and plot twists. I've read several of Mr. Callas' novels and I have enjoyed every one of them.
