Separate for a Reason: Re-Examining Separation of Church and State in America
Janet Ruth, author
What if the Christian hope for America has nothing to do with laws, politics, or freedom? What if the calling of Christians in America has nothing to do with fixing our culture? Constitutional expert, Janet Ruth, points Christians back to the gospel by dismantling misconceptions about the relationship between church and state, religion and politics. In Separate for a Reason: Re-Examining Separation of Church and State in America, you will: • Learn the history of the writing of the 1st Amendment Religion Clauses • Get a detailed overview of 1st Amendment law and important Supreme Court cases • Get an in-depth look at the controversy over the words “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance • See how Christians can be motivated by faulty arguments to protect their homes, comforts, and freedoms • Discover how the gospel message can free you from fear for your nation and the burden of fixing a broken culture Separate for a Reason provides an alternative to the culture war in a historical, legal, and biblical review of Separation of Church and State. It provides a fresh perspective on an old debate and helps Christians put their faith in God instead of moral laws and empty religious ceremonies.

Janet Ruth inspires me to think beyond my comfort of a Christian dominant country. Besides the legal logic of separation of church and state, Janet supports her opinion with scriptural citations. Separate for a Reason is logical, easy to read, and a breath of fresh air on a tired subject. I am blessed to be part of Janet's launch team. I gifted her book for lenten reading to Christian family members.

Amazon review

I am apolitical but troubled at not knowing how to respond to the angst of my political-minded friends. Separate for a Reason expressed exactly what I've felt but could not articulate--and it made sense! I will be recommending this book to anyone who opens up a political conversation with me. God's ways are so different from our ways. My vote goes to the Lord God Almighty who will work out His purposes through whomever He chooses to lead us. Yes, church and state are separate for a reason. Janet Ruth's reasons for choosing a third option ring true.
