Absolutely Brilliant!
To say that "Spilt Milk" is brilliant is an understatement. This IS great writing! "Spilt Milk" is a collection of short stories, intricately interwoven in a unique and tantalizing way, keeping the reader endlessly enthralled. The prose is sparse and somehow 'just right' - no wasted hyperbole here.
I usually eschew short stories - my preference being for that big fat book that lasts a long time. However, Ms. Cassidy's collection is so amazing that an eBook just isn't enough. This is one I want on my bookshelf and, to that end, I have just ordered the paperback.
This work is most highly recommended - if I could, I would give it 6 stars! We'll be hearing a lot about Ms. Cassidy in the future, I am sure!
Exceptional!
This aptly named collection of excellent short stories gives the reader brief, but illuminating glimpses of the various characters’ lives. The stories are exceptionally well written and extremely thought provoking. The author’s prose is clean, succinct, and captivating. Each story examines some important aspect of the human condition leaving the reader with plenty to contemplate and relate to. But, don’t misunderstand this is not a stodgy philosophical tomb! Quite the opposite, these stories are each delightful and easy to read. I experienced a gamut of emotions ranging from fear and disturbing discomfort to laughter and delight. I will be looking for more work from this most excellent author!
Brilliant Collection of Stories.
Spilt Milk is a collection of short stories ranging from the truly bizarre to deeply tragic. But, each story tugs at your heartstring and I for one, cannot pick a favorite. The characters in each story are drawn vividly and come alive in the pages. Deborah Cassidy has accomplished something that few authors manage to do; she leaves you to finish the story.
Her stories make you introspect and take a closer look at your life and the lives of those around you and I think that is what the author is trying to convey. The pathos that we come across everyday and that passes us by, unnoticed. A brilliant piece of work.
