Set in 2005, Quatrano’s entertaining sequel to 2015’s Murder in Black and White adds more depth to her intrepid lead, FBI agent-turned-PI AJ Buchanan, who has “a love for photography, justice and [her] husband Travis, not necessarily in that order,” and who runs “on an insane sense of responsibility to right social injustice.” AJ and Travis travel to New Orleans to attend the wedding of a cousin, Merline Thoubodore, whom she barely knows.
