5.0 out of 5 stars From "damaged goods" to "empowered survivor" is the journey you embark on reading this book.
By Kristin Sunanta Walker on December 2, 2015
Evelyn's book changed the trajectory of my recovery. Many victims of abuse go their entire lives believing they are toxically damaged and take the blame for everything that has happened to them since early childhood. Evelyn makes it very clear in an empowering way that people have a choice and when we are abused in childhood our perception of "normal" is what keeps us locked and addicted to painful relationships. It is the first time I feel empowered and am able to look back and change the story of my own childhood from viewing myself as "damaged goods" to "kick butt survivor and empowered human being". I encourage anyone going through an abusive relationship(s) to read her book and let it soak in. Her writing is clear, powerful, and motivating. I am sure this is only the first of many books from her. She is also a powerful speaker and I hope she'll join us many times on Mental Health News Radio. Bravo Evelyn and Thank You.
5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful and helpful
By Valerie Rucker on February 6, 2016
Excellent resource that goes into much greater depth than other similar publications. Delves into the influence that past traumas have on one's later acceptance of abusive relationships. Many resources focus solely on the abuser, while interesting and helpful, are not ENOUGH for a survived to move forward and beyond the abuse. This book offers exercises and tools, i.e. ACTIVE steps one can take in order to reclaim one's power.

If you feel surrounded by personalities who take advantage of your tendencies to generosity and empathy, this book may help you to understand your need to learn social tools to protect yourself from those more aggressive personalities who are insensitive to social boundaries.
5.0 out of 5 stars She has a very good understanding of narcissists and surviving the abuse
By Bobbie Ward on June 27, 2016
She has a very good understanding of narcissists and surviving the abuse. She gives a thorough plan and tools for survivors of abuse to learn to thrive. I recommend this book: "Take Your Power Back" by Evelyn Ryan. I have a B.A. in counseling and did not learn these things. I know other counselors who don't have a clue how to help a person survive abuse.
4.0 out of 5 stars For those who suffer and want to get to a better, life embracing place

Evelyn is in the here and now, when it comes to recovery from Narcissistic abuse. She has been there, and offers empathetic support from her heart. She sincerely is there for us all, who suffer and want to get to a better, life embracing place. It's great to have a beacon out of the darkness, someone who has come before, and better yet when that beacon is shining below, to those that seek a leg up, in healing and understanding it all. She understands and is the ticket.

This book changed my life. I cannot give it enough stars. The information contained in this book is a blueprint for how to stop feeling like a victim and start celebrating your strengths and worthiness. Warning: this book does not sugarcoat the truth, but living in truth will set you free. I use this book along with therapy, and everyday, I learn more about how NOT unique I am. So many of us are walking in pain and confusion. I PROMISE YOU that this book will clarify many, many issues that we ALL suffer.
