This book has a surprising style. It's based on an understanding that the reader needs small victories and must be continuously motivated in order to be successful. That style is so refreshing. I didn't feel like I was being spoken to. It felt like a friend was gently guiding me through, but I was still in control of deciding what is best for me. It's really a practical guide with goals that are achievable.
I'm pretty skeptical about self-help/motivational books, but this one won me over. For one thing, the author takes a realistic approach - he doesn't promise you the world, doesn't ask you to do anything more than you feel like/are capable of doing, and doesn't require slavish adherence to his "rules."
The emphasis here is on taking small steps (literally and figuratively), and on NOT setting goals. On NOT trying to be thinner, nicer, more optimistic, more caring, etc., but having those things happen as by-products of following the author's suggestions. I found the "best possible you" section of the book especially interesting/helpful.
