An earthquake in Idaho uncovers a blood red pyramid in a granite cliff with the ominous name of Devil's Ladder. The next day a lone jogger is attacked and killed by hundreds of swarming spiders under the influence of the pyramid. The angel Gabriel along with his companion, a cherub disguised as a German shepherd who goes by the name Faax must now gain the confidence of the local sheriff, his two deputies, a priest/exorcist and an alcoholic Indian shaman to break into the pyramid and free the Archangel Mikael, that Gabriel believes is trapped within. Meanwhile, in New York city, two demon hunting warriors of the light; the Golem Zeeke and his partner, the cherub Ariel, who is disguised as a small brown cat, are being directed West by a strange crystal dagger. But just because they are taking a road trip doesn't mean they're taking a break for hunting creatures of the Dark Plane. They end up joining with Gabriel and the others to battle the creatures of the dark plane who want to keep the Archangel imprisoned.
