The characters are well drawn, both people and animals. Our heroine, Viv, is a strong character who becomes stronger, more independent, more capable in ways that are genuinely attractive. The back-stories to the main characters are interesting, showing some considerable depth and providing the characters with rounded personalities. There is also an exploration of sexuality, parenthood, and fostering that are thoughtful. So while The Dating Do-Over is fun to read and provides the usual romantic plot and comforts, it also has some intellectual basis, such that one might not discard it after the first read.
