A young boy named Tyler Wordsmith lives in an old house called Bramble. After he is scolded for an angry outburst and sent to his father's library, he runs into a sneak thief named Whisper who is busy stealing the maps and charts of Tyler's father. During a scuffle with Whisper, thief and boy are pulled through a tiny magical door and into Whimsy where Tyler encounters the ogre of Old Oak Valley, trolls guarding the troll bridge into October, and a grumpy ruckus who just wants a nap--to name a few of the odd creatures inhabiting Whimsy. It falls to Tyler to stop a hateful creature (a creature Tyler knows only too well) from destroying the neighboring kingdoms of October and Autumn. Along the way, Tyler learns the value--and wisdom--of mastering his words and his temper. Lavishly illustrated in color. Hardcover w/ dust jacket. Detailed Whimsy map on back. 156 pages. For 8 years old and up. Western Gate Books. Available: B&N.
