The Emperor and the Spy
Stan S. Katz, author

The Emperor and the Spy, is inspired by the never-before-available personal papers of a master spy, Colonel Sidney Forrester Mashbir (1981-1973). This exciting historical novel blends drama, action and intrigue, providing a clearer picture of Japanese-American History, during the first half of the 20th Century.

Mashbir grew up in Tucson, Arizona and became a true son of the American Southwest: surveying for the railroads, working in copper mines, bronco busting, and even doing stunt horseback riding for the earliest silent movies. At the age of 13, he joined the Arizona Guard as a bugle boy, during the time of the U.S. Cavalry. His military career continued into the Atomic Age. This novel presents several of Mashbir’s earliest clandestine missions along the Mexican border, including chasing Pancho Villa; and prior to, and during, World War One, he eliminated enemy spy networks in the America.

Destiny then took him to Japan: Mashbir’s personal papers revealed his unprecedented close relationship with the Japanese Royal Family and to other top leaders of Japan…During the 1920s and 1930s they formed a secret alliance which delayed and attempted to prevent conflict between their nations.

When WWII regrettably erupted, Mashbir took a pivotal role in winning it, serving as General Douglas MacArthur’s top specialist on the Japanese. Colonel Mashbir headed a top-secret intelligence organization that shortened the war in the Pacific by two years.
