The Fading Light: Midnight Sun is a work of fiction in the psychological thriller, dark fiction, and suspense sub-genres, and was written by author Ahmed Altaher. Please note that due to explicit language, sexual situations, and scenes of graphic violence, this book is more suitable for adult reading audiences. The book follows the struggles of Leonardo Lykaios as his façade of happiness slips further and further as the fates conspire to make his life miserable. The struggle becomes harder when Leonardo’s psyche fractures into three pieces with each one fighting to control the direction his life moves in.
Author Ahmed Altaher has crafted a darkly thrilling and elegant psychological work for adult audiences to devour. One of the things which impressed me most about the work was the commitment to voice and presentation, elements so essential to the central plot and Leonardo’s battle with his three very different viewpoints. Each of these felt grounded in their own logic and was reflected well by the changes in attitude and atmosphere, and attention to detail which gives the book great psychological authenticity. I felt that the graphic content was actually quite suitably jarring to the work as well, adding sharp edges and sensibilities to an already enthralling story, and the author’s skilled use of dialogue was an inventive and witty addition to the characters too. Overall, I would certainly recommend The Fading Light: Midnight Sun to all readers who enjoy a complex and conceptual plotline with fascinating characters and plenty to get your mind engaged.
