The Frenchman: A Bennett Sisters Mystery

Adult; Mystery/Thriller; (Market)

It’s Eat Pray Love meets murder mystery in Lise McClendon’s deliciously cozy chronicles of sisterhood, international travel … and a soupçon of danger. Merle Bennett goes back to France -- and her Frenchman -- in this fifth installment of the Bennett Sisters mysteries. Sure that La Belle France will cure all her ills, and help her write a novel about the French Revolution, she sets out to prove her theory correct. Pascal, her Frenchman, scoffs at this. As a policeman he knows France is pretty to look at but not all that pretty under surface. While Merle writes and renovates her stone cottage Pascal encounters an old enemy, a man he put in prison years before.. When Pascal goes silent, Merle isn't sure if their relationship is over, or something terrible has happened. 'The Frenchman' includes chapters of Merle's novel, a glimpse into life during the turmoil of the Revolution. With goats and a handsome stranger! 'Odette and the Great Fear,' Merle's novel, will be available as a separate e-book with more chapters included. A soupçon of danger, a brush with 'madame guillotine,' and the quirky characters of the French countryside, all collide in this new installment of the Bennett Sisters Mysteries, set in la belle France-- where, obviously, wine, sunshine, sunflowers, and Frenchmen cure all ills. Or do they?
Reviews
Goodreads

The Frenchman is quite possibly my most favorite book of Lise McClendon's yet. As always, Ms McClendon has delivered a most interesting tale of intrigue, mystery, romance, and of course the French Countryside. Merle, the middle sister, the practical one, decides to put aside her work as a lawyer and indulge herself to spend several months in her beloved France. She learns much about her adopted country and even puts her detective skills to work in this novel as she realizes that the love of her life, Pascal, has gone missing and devotes her time to search for him. I also enjoyed the story-within-a-story, Odette and the Great Fear, Merle's novel about the young goat herder.
