The Holocaust in Slovakia
Tomas (Tom) Venetianer, author
Volume 1 deals with the historical background that, along WW2, led to the extermination of six million Jews, including 70,000 Slovak citizens. It covers the story of Jew-hatred and anti-Semitism, concentrating mainly on the main historical events in the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Czechoslovakia. This volume ends in 1938-1939. Volume 2 reports the Holocaust in Slovakia in detail, covering the period from mid 1938 to 1947. It focuses on the perpetrators and the “solution” that the clerical-fascist government of father Tiso gave to the “Jewish Question.” The main chapters describe the persecution and spoliation of Slovakia’s Jewry, these people’s internment in forced labor camps and finally their eviction and deportation to the Nazi extermination camps in Poland.
