The Link that Could Not Be Broken
C.L. Shaffer, author
After the death of his father, Gavin withdraws from life and eventually from his faith. Because of this, conversations with his lifelong friend, Dr. Faulkner Brickley, where the subject often veers into matters of faith have become uncomfortable. Gavin needs to explain to his friend that he no longer believes. After Gavin discloses this, the professor decides it’s time to reveal his own secret—that God has granted Gavin an amazing gift. Dr. Brickley believes there is a purpose for this gift. However, it will be up to Gavin to choose to use this talent for good. In the meantime, Gavin has a chance meeting with Elizabeth Kashner, whom he had brought into the faith but rejected in his grief over his father’s death. Other than stirring up old feelings, little comes of their reconnection—until Elizabeth takes a missionary trip to the Russian republic of Ingushetia. Gavin goes to Elizabeth to convince her to come home, only to have her taken hostage. In a bold play to gain the confidence of the violent men who are holding her, Gavin offers to use his newfound talent to win Elizabeth’s freedom. Not waiting around to be rescued, Elizabeth has her own bold move to make. As the plot makes its suspense-filled journey through Ingushetia and Chechnya and into the heart of Russia, a course is set that will deeply change many lives in very surprising ways.
